India’s Stand in The International Level After 75 Years of Independence

Since time immemorial, We the Indians were considered the best in many sectors and were representing our caliber in front of the whole world very proudly. Perhaps, time was not happy with the prosperity of our great renowned country and made a plan to make our country’s growth slow in comparison to others. Starting from the Mongol Invasion to the barbaric Britishers, our country had to face each and every enemy unwantedly. We the Indians never wanted to be enemy of others but perhaps,  we were such innocent that they trapped us and pushed us 500 back. Hence, by the virtue of our great freedom fighters and the brave people, we got our nation back and on 15th August 1947, we became the sailor of our nation boat finally. But this was not the end.. We had to emerge as the best country in the world, that’s why we are continuously trying to become the best in each and every sector from that very day and we are getting the result of our hard work too.

Our nation was not among the developed countries when it was free from the Britisher’s rule. Instead of this, India was facing severe problems in medical sector, sanity, technology, poverty, hunger, illiteracy, ravaged economy and many more..Like rubbing salt into the wound, our country faced many wars too with our neighbour countries which broke our economy and the people’s beliefs.

Yes, it’s a very long period that we have got our independence. On 15th August 2021, we celebrated our 75th Independence day commemorating our great freedom fighters. So, what is our international position ? What other countries think of our country ? Are we really developing or not ? This questions must be arising in one’s mind. So, answer is yes.. We are in a continuous path of development. There is a huge difference in the status of India in 2022 and in 1947. Our country has established a very unique and prestigious place globally.

According to Cambridge historian Angus Maddison, India’s share in world income was around 22.6% during 1700 which was almost equal to the share of whole Europe i.e 23.3%. But due to the Britishers, the deindustrialization took place severely which resulted in the shrink of India’s share in world income to approximately 4% during independence. So, we received our independence but we are very very poor. Let’s time travel to the current scenario, to 2022. Currently, we are the 6th largest economy of the world. We are moving towards a 5 trillion economy. What a marvelous achievement it is !!

During independence era, only one sixth of the Indian population was literate. People were totally unaware of technologies and depending upon old techniques. But today, we are leading the world in IT sector, Medical sector, Engineering and Innovation. Indians are literally ruling the world in IT sector. Thanks to Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadela and many more who have created a benchmark in the IT sector and have made India proud through their contributions to the IT sector. There are sufficient number of IT sectors that are employing lakhs and lakhs of people. We are becoming self sufficient. India is climbing towards peak rapidly. According to recent global innovation index, India is placed 46th. In 2015, the rank was around 81. So, if we compare both the rankings, the we can clearly visualize that how fast we are growing.. How can we forget the contributions of Sri Ratan Tata Ji, Aziz Premji Sir and other industrialist-cum-nation improvers.. They have a great contribution towards shaping our technology to a very different level. The whole world is surprised to see our UPI model of financial transactions. Yes, this is our achievement.

We have expanded our import as well as export capacity. Currently we stand 11th and 18th respectively in import and export ranking in the whole world. Moreover, we are not that old Indians anymore who used to depend on other countries for everything. Now we are changed and the impact of COVID-19 has also helped us to become atmanirbhar too. We produced our medikits when there was a shortfall of supply. We produced our own vaccine and helped other nations too. We are becoming self reliant and moving fast towards to become a country of minimal import.

Time was there, when Indian people were unaware of telephones but if we consider the scenario of today, then we are the 2nd largest users of mobile phones in the whole world. Our country stands at 4th position in the number of television broadband stations. Along with this, among the 75 countries who have 4G LTE network, we stand at 15th position. See, how fast we are moving upward…

Our past rulers i.e Britishers are the founder of Cricket but the biggest irony is that India is ruling in cricket. We are the number 1 team in test cricket and stand in 2nd and 4th position in T20 and ODI respectively. Our India has provided one of the top 3 teams in Hockey. Our Chess players are also shining in the whole world. Chess players like Viswnathan Anand, Padmini Rout etc. have brought glory for India. Performance in Olympics is also increasing time to time. Neeraj Chopra, Mirabai Chanu, Indian Hockey Team and other prominent players of Olympic as well as Paralympic teams have brought glory to India.

It is mention worthy that we are the number 1 film producer of the whole world. Indians like A.R. Rahman, Harnaaz Sandhu, Aishwarya Rai Bachan, Priyanka Chopra and many more distingusihed personalities have brought glory and fame for India by winning various international competitions.

According to Credit Suisse, India stands at 4th position in military strength and our country has the 2nd largest active military manpower in the whole world. We have the 3rd largest military budget which is a milestone for other countries.

Nobel laureates like Mother Teressa, Amartya Sen, Kailash Satyarthy, Dr. C.V.Raman,  Dr. Har gobind Khorana, Abhijeet Banerjee have brought India proud moments.  Scientists like Homi J. Bhaba, A.P.J Abdul Kalam, Visvesvaraya, Salim Ali and other renowned scientists have helped India a lot to stand strong in technological sector.

Although we were forced to poverty and dirt by the Britishers, but we the Indians didn’t forget our base, our livelihood, the agriculture.. Currently, we are the largest producer of Banana, Buffalo Milk, Bean, Chickpea, Ginger, Goat milk, Jute, Lemon, Mango, Millet, Sorghum etc. We are sufficiently producing food grains and other edibles and exporting to other countries too.

Although we are improving a lot, still there are some problems which are not rooted out yet. Our countries need to focus on those sectors too. Our country needs to help the middle class, lower middle class and the people under below poverty line to improve their lifestyles. Infrastructure of India needs to be developed rapidly and government should ensure that each and every person of India should be able to avail the benefits from the government. It is very painful to mention that India has a very bad ranking in Global Hunger Index as well as Global Happiness Index which needs to be improved.

People of India are very brainy but the education system of India needs to be changed and improved. Higher standards of education and skill development should be implemented all over India to stop biasness. Brain drain is a very big problem for India currently. Brainy people are moving abroad to establish themselves as they are not getting sufficient opportunities to grow here in India which is creating a hindrance directly in the growth of our country as our country is loosing numerous skillful people.

Food security and nutrition of people should be taken care of and the health system should be advanced to the peak. As we are progressing towards to become the country with most population, health care systems need to be improved a lot for the betterment of the people. Agriculture sector shouldn’t be abandoned by the people. Instead of this, each one of us should realize the importance of agriculture. If we become aware of our problems and start solving our problems from the grassroot level, then a day will surely come, when our country will surely become the global leader which is not unacceptable.
