A Letter to Bapu

Dear Bapu,
Perhaps you were not supposed to be born on this terrestrial earth. That’s why ,the Almighty took you back very early just after we got the freedom from the britishers. You were taken back mercilessly which created an indelible remark in the heart of every Indian.Yes ,you are the purest soul who was ever born in this materialistic world for the establishment of truth, humanity and non violence. From my very childhood,I have been listening and reading about the greatest deeds by you for the sake of our country and there was a time when I realized the truthness of the words by the greatest scientist of the millennium i.e Dr. Albert Einstein that the “Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth.” If a person who was born only after 50 years after your soul departed to heaven is being astonished by the activities done by you, then how could our next generations will believe your existence…
Cutting the abdomen of our mother India ,you took birth here and this is the ultimate truth. This was India’s greatest fate.I may not have seen you in my eyes. But my grandfather who was born during your era has shown me the real you in his eyes. From his description ,I could really imagine the briskly walking frail framed person from his description. Can you answer me that where did you get all the enrgies utilized during the Dandi Yatra despite of being a lean and thin person ??? Perhaps , you were so determinant to give freedom to our country.I would like to thank you for the freedom of our country which was possible only due to the tireless endeavors and sacrificing nature of yours and your followers. In my belief, today we are the sailor of our nation boat and that has happened only because of you.
Bapuji you are very naughty.Like me ,you were also just like a restless Mercury in your childhood. You used to twist the ear of the dogs.Ha ha ha…I think ,the dogs might chased you very often that time.Didn’t you fear the barking of dogs ?? I know you are the father of our nation but I really laughed at you when I came to know about your secret from my grandfather.Despite of belonging to a pure vegetarian family, you had eaten meat once. You were so determinant to become tall that you didn’t hesitate to eat meat by the influence of your friend Sheikh Mehtab. After that you vomitted and became a pure vegetarian.I know this but you were tall. That’s why ,I also tried to eat meat as much as possible to become tall but everything was in vein…
Although you are naughty, but nobody is comparable to your wit.Though you are very shy in nature ,but you are intelligent and books and the lessons provided by the teachers are your companions.Actually ,I don’t like to study at all.If you are reading this letter, kindly tell me how to get the interest towards reading books.
Bapuji ,can I ask you a question ? In May 1883 ,you were just 13 years old and you were married to a girl of 14 years old.She was older than you.Didn’t you protest to marry her ? After all you were just 13.How did you agree to marry at this age ? Were you happy that time ??? You must be thinking only about new clothes and the sweets.Ha ha ha…It was so funny when I used to listen about all these events. When I listened the stories about your childhood marriage, I was just imagining all those events in front of my eyes.I was imagining Kasturaba Maa playing and dancing with you…What a sweet imagination that was !!
Now, I am 21 years old.Still now,I haven’t raised my voice against anyone. But you had such a brave heart. When you went to South Africa to become the lawyer of an Indian ,you faced discrimination.Because, your complexion was different from the Europeans, you were not allowed to sit with them. You were even pushed out of the train. You were forced to remove your turban but you didn’t.In between the confusion to return to India and staying to raise voice against discrimination ,your soul chose the second one.Because of your strong decision and witty movement ,the Indians present over there got their rights…
You joined Indian National Congress. When you were introduced to the Indian primary issues, politics and Indian people , you became so sad and decided to initiate the nation freedom movement. You believed that the British rule was established only due to the co-operation of Indians. So,to eradicate the reign of Britishers, you called for a Non-co-operation movement and people of india also followed your path by disobeying the civil orders. But eventually with the unexpected Jallianwala Bagh Massacre ,you were deeply hurted from inside because it was the consequence of the violence.
When the old people of your time describe the scene of Salt March, I became so excited that I feel a high energy inside me.The energy , determination and the leadership which led you to initiate this movement were indescribable. This satyagraha was carried out in all over India and the whole Britishers were deeply impacted. At last, after the quit India movement ,we became the sailor of our nation boat.India was divided into a New India and Pakistan. With this ,your heart was also broken.
It was 5.17 PM on 30 January 1948.It was the black day for whole India. You were shot dead by Nathuram Godse from a close range. You left us forever. But your soul is still blessing us from the heaven. We are following your footsteps and leading our India towards cleanliness.A day will surely come ,when India will be the benchmark of cleanliness and your principles will be cherished. If we follow your principles, then our life will be with flying colors, which is also unacceptable.
Kindly bless the whole humanity from the heaven and your soul may rest in peace…

With love and respect,
Akash Kumar Champatiray
